The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation today announced that Sarah Merrefield has been appointed Senior Program Officer, overseeing a portfolio of grant programs that support the Foundation’s mission of expanding access to health care for low-income and vulnerable people in the Commonwealth.
Merrefield has more than a decade of experience in grantmaking, public policy and community health, particularly in the areas of anti-poverty and social determinants of health. She previously served as a senior program manager for community health at Partners Healthcare, where she oversaw the Partnership for Community Health, a grant program that supports service excellence and innovation at community health centers in Massachusetts.
“Sarah assumes a key position on the Foundation’s grantmaking team focusing on coverage and care as well as social equity and health,” said Audrey Shelto, president of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation. “With her experience in community health and strong familiarity with the issues that our grantees work so hard to address, Sarah will be a terrific asset to our staff.”
Merrefield holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Vermont. She was the recipient of the Barbara Rhodes Memorial Scholarship and the University of Vermont Presidential Scholarship.
