Amy Whitcomb Slemmer brings more than twenty years of health care policy and management experience to her work as Executive Director of Health Care For All.
Prior to joining Health Care For All in 2008, Ms. Whitcomb Slemmer held a number of leadership positions, including that of executive officer of American Red Cross Biomedical Services, which is responsible for more than half of the nation’s blood supply. She has been the executive director of DC Vote, where she gained national attention for her efforts to help local residents obtain full Congressional voting rights, and was legislative counsel for the National Association of People with AIDS, where she garnered bipartisan support to increase funding for HIV/AIDS research. As founder of Slemmer & Associates Grassroots Advocacy, she guided health care organizations through the federal legislative process.
Ms. Whitcomb Slemmer has a long history of work in trying to improve the health care delivery system, beginning with her tenure as the director of public education for the Health Care Reform Project. She began her D.C.-based career as a member of Senator Edward M. Kennedy’s health care policy staff.
Ms. Whitcomb Slemmer earned a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center and graduated with honors from Wheaton College with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Ms. Whitcomb Slemmer is very active in the Episcopal Church and in her community and serves on a number of local and national boards. In 2011, Governor Deval Patrick appointed her to the Massachusetts Statewide Advisory Committee on a Standard Quality Measure Set.
