Robert Meenan, MD

Special Assistant to the President at Boston University

Dr. Meenan, who served as Dean at Boston University School of Public Health from 1992 to 2014, is Special Assistant to Boston University’s President, Robert Brown. Dr. Meenan has been on the faculty of Boston University since 1977, and he is currently appointed as Professor of Health Policy and Management in the School of Public Health and as Professor of Medicine in the School of Medicine.  He previously served as chief of the Division of Rheumatology in the School of Medicine and director of the Arthritis Clinic at Boston City Hospital. 

Dr. Meenan is a member of the Board of Directors at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts and currently chairs the Board’s Governance Committee. He is also a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, a past president of the American College of Rheumatology and a member of the Board of Trustees at the New England College of Optometry.  He has previously served as the Senior Vice Chair of the Arthritis Foundation and as a Trustee of Regis College.

Dr. Meenan holds a BA in government from Harvard College, an MD from Boston University School of Medicine, an MPH in Health Administration and Planning from the University of California Berkeley and an MBA in Health Care Administration from Boston University School of Management.  He trained in Internal Medicine at Boston City Hospital and in Rheumatology at the University of California San Francisco.
